Full overcast and 19 hours of rain have stained the lakes, so sight-based bites are off today. Largemouth are the play: they hunt by lateral line, so chatterbaits and spinnerbaits worked slowly along the pad edges and hard structure should produce. Skip the peacock until the sun returns.
Rain and overcast fade out by Friday, with dry air and a steady 29.9 inHg pressure setting up a clear, sunny Friday and Saturday that should be the best peacock days of the week. Pressure rises Sunday and Monday under reinforcing high pressure with northerly flow, which keeps conditions stable for snakehead and bass, while the water holds near 80°F through the period.
Markham Park is a 666-acre Broward County park that delivers true South Florida exotic species fishing within sight of I-595.
16001 W State Road 84, Sunrise. Easy access from I-595 and the Sawgrass.
Park entrance fee (around $1.50 weekdays, $3 weekends per person). Bank fishing throughout, multiple kayak launches, no gas motors permitted on the lakes.
Jerkbaits and walking topwaters for peacock, fished fast along the main lake's hard structure. Frogs and chatterbaits in the pads for snakehead. Kayak gives access to the back canals where pressure is lowest.
Year-round, with peak action March-October. Time of day depends on what you're after: peacocks want sun overhead and fish best mid-morning through afternoon, while snakehead are most active early and late. If peacock is the target, there's no need to be at the gate at opening — give the sun time to get on the water.
Standard Florida regs. Snakehead no limit.
Bass Pro at Sawgrass Mills is 10 minutes away.
