Holiday Park

Marginalweedless soft plastics or a chatterbait on the lee-side seawall and bridge pilings · best 5:00-7:30 PM

Skip the peacock today. Mostly cloudy skies, 0.32 inches of rain on top of a muddy, flooded system, and 20 mph east wind shut down the sight-feeding bite. Largemouth don't mind any of that, so work the protected side of the seawall and the bridge pilings with a slow, cover-tight presentation from dusk into the 8:10 PM major period.

By species today

Peacock Bass
Overcast, muddy water after repeated rain, and a 20 mph wind all hit a sight-feeder hard; wait for sun and clearer water.
Largemouth Bass
Overcast and stained water favor them, but the wind and steady pressure keep it marginal; fish the lee side and go slow.

Rain and wind dominate through Wednesday, with the heaviest showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pressure holds steady all week, and the NWS expects a mostly dry frontal passage around Thursday that brings diminishing winds. That sets up Thursday through Saturday as the best stretch for peacock, with clearing skies, water near 79-80°F, and calmer conditions.

About this water

Fishing Holiday Park — Fort Lauderdale Peacock Bass

Holiday Park is a Fort Lauderdale staple — easy access, reliable peacock bass action, and a true urban fishery in the middle of the city.

Where it is

1150 G Harold Martin Dr, Fort Lauderdale. Easy access from US-1.

Access and parking

Free parking, free fishing. Bank access along most of the lake. Kayak launch available.

Species

  • Peacock bass — the main draw, year-round.
  • Largemouth bass — steady catches.
  • Mayan cichlid — bonus.

Techniques

Work the seawall and bridge pilings — that hard structure is where the peacocks sit. Suspending jerkbaits and walking topwaters retrieved fast do the damage. Smaller soft plastics for finicky fish that have seen a lot of lures.

Best times

Holiday Park has a real tension worth planning around. The peacock bite is best mid-morning through afternoon — they're sight feeders and need sun on the water. But this is a busy urban park, and joggers, kids, and other anglers build up through the day.

The practical answer is mid-morning: late enough that the sun is working for you, early enough to beat the worst of the crowds. A sunrise start gets you a quiet shoreline and very few peacock — if you go at first light, target largemouth until the sun climbs, then switch.

Regulations

Standard Florida freshwater.
